Second day of school. First day? School attendance computer crashed and most of the schedules had the wrong room numbers on them. *thud* So you can all probably guess that being a flexible sort of person was a good thing. Today? Smoother, except for my last group, some of whom really didn't have a lot of respect for anyone and talked over me, other students, etc. So I guess the next class I have with them, I send 'em out if they do that, and then detentions after that. Sigh. Teenagers. Lots of well behaved kids, too, though.
Some of the old-guard teachers are being really snotty to newbies. "I haven't given detentions in three years, because I am an experienced teacher, you know, and so I don't have problems in my room." What total bull! And she was saying this to a first year teacher (I've taught for more than a decade, so I know she was just trying to sound perfect). There's no such thing as far as I know as a perfect class that never has a problem. Working out problems is part of every school year, yeah? I mean my obnoxious group today? Tonight I plan how to make it work with them. That's part of teaching, or so my mother taught me.
