Just got back from my vocal group's concert. Three months plus of rehearsal and it actually came off rather well (and we sang in eight languages altogether tonight). It felt good, and the audience liked it a lot. I got to drum on two pieces with a local master-level percussion player, which was incredible...we sort of rocked out on the last one, which was also lots of fun. My huge solo (a Sephardic piece in Ladino - which is part Hebrew, part Spanish) worked, which I was worried about. Microphones give me conniptions, since one has to adjust one's voice to fit the particular sound system to avoid scary feedback.

Dad, who was in the third row with Mom, said "that was the best I've ever heard you sing." Which was an odd thing for me, 'cause my opera-singing, 2 PhD's in music sister is usually the one who gets his performance focus, so it was a nice change. I know he appreciates my music, but he doesn't usually say anything about it other than "nice concert". My mother said that her mother would have appreciated the piece we did in Yiddish. Glad she thought so, since I arranged it with her and her mother in mind. :)

A bit audience tonight - almost 100 in a pretty small performance space.

Happy but exhausted, I am going to fall over in a moment, I think.

I'm glad that went well. I have a childhood friend who really should do opera because her voice is very nice, but I'm not sure if she is atm. It's not my kind of music so I haven't looked for her anywhere.

I love microphones though. I think it has to do with my past as a radio reporter, lol.

*hugs*
