*falls over laughing*

I swear, I am NOT making this up. I was listening to the Torchwood BBC4 radioplay in the car (I made a cd this morning). It ends and I switch back to the radio, which is just getting to the traffic report... "We've had a report of a large blue box in the roadway just off the S. Exit." *Really?! 'Cause with the day I've had, Tennant's Doctor would be really welcome right now...maybe with Jack and Ianto in tow?*

Anyway, on to my review of the radioplay, which took me right back to junior high school nights of listening to Bradbury 13 broadcasts of creepy short stories.

* I'll just say that I thought the science was interesting and that I paid more attention to the character stuff. As an English/Writing teacher, "Guys, less exposition - show, don't tell, even on the radio, darn it."

* Yay! They're actually writing the story as though it's just after the end of Season 2. Tosh and Owen and a funeral mentioned, and actual conversations in which our three are still sad and dealing with it.

* I adore Ianto and Gwen shouting and running about in the background while Jack and Martha are talking on the phone. Really hysterical.

* Even on radio, Gareth is awesome - little lines that said more than any of Jack's exposition bits. I loved how his voice changed when Ianto is dealing with memories of his friends. His rather too quiet "quick as you can, yeah?" to Gwen when she's coming to help him

* I don't know why anyone is complaining about a lack of Jack/Ianto. That bit when Jack asks him if he's okay while the creatures are making him hear voices, and he says yes and then no...a lot said with their voices, especially when he's trying to tell Jack what's happening to him. Jack's voice, deliberately steady and calm, was a nice counterpoint to his panicking, shaking voice. And Gwen trying to get Ianto to stay with her by saying how much he loves coffee and Jack! Okay, it would have been nice if there was an Ianto and Jack conversation about Tosh and Owen, but I'll take what I can get. Maybe in season 3?

* Ambassador to Wales. And his personal assistant - Mr. Harkness. *giggle* I loved Jack's grumbling. And Ianto's snarking was perfect throughout. "So... you're the dead, then."

* "My bike's got a bell" "I'm very pleased for you." Those two are such siblings sometimes.

* I also liked that last conversation, even if I thought there was more to be said. It's about time someone demanded that Jack explain that 21st century comment. Ianto didn't let Jack get away with a pat answer, and that speaks volumes about his role in their relationship just then. Plus bonus poetry from Ianto and Jack. Nice.

* I liked Gwen a lot more in this and in Doctor Who than I did in Torchwood, and I'm hoping that they write her this way for season 3. She was rather more sympathetic than usual. Her absolute refusal to listen to the creatures was wonderfully done - stubborn girl, our Gwen. "Oh, you really don't want to mess with me!"
