Better day, mostly. It warmed up and was actually pleasant for about two hours, there.
We're studying feudalism in Middle Ages Europe, and watched a short and silly film about knights. Lots of
sudden interest from various kids, as I assigned the class to compare the knights to samurai from the last unit. And a lot of the girls liked the idea that medieval ladies of the manor ran things when their husbands were out fighting. (and one girl who takes care of a family horse got really into researching the huge horses the knights had to ride - well, you try carrying 180 lbs of knight and 75 lbs of armor!)
My assistant principal has decided that if the boys who were called on the carpet for vandalizing books
in two rooms including mine can't tell the truth (they're all pointing at each other, unsurprisingly), he's not wasting any more valuable time on it - they can all split the cost of the books. :) I do like the man - practical sort.
As I was leaving school today, I saw a former student and asked her how 8th grade was going. She grumbled and said "boring", and then blurted out "I miss you and your classroom - you're a good teacher and I had fun learning."
