Odd, odd, odd day.

Weirdness at lunch, with someone being rather negative and me not knowing if I'd done misunderstood or caused the grumpiness. I'm not sure anyone realized how long I had to convince myself to risk putting myself out there before I went to check; not with that person, but with their colleague who reassured me that said person had had a really bad morning. And that she agreed with me about something...we came up with a plan to maybe solve a problem, and that felt good.

So glad it's Friday. I need the weekend. And music rehearsal. And possibly sleeping late.
Maybe even the gleeful chaos of the temple Sukkot celebration on Sunday. Pomegranates!

(no subject)

Woah. I sometimes read reviews of shows on "Television Without Pity", which my sister found online. Some great insights. There was a recap of Battlestar Galactica this morning in which a reviewer apparently found it necessary to call a character a "retard". I emailed and said that I usually enjoyed his reviews, but that I found his use of the word offensive and hurtful (I mean, I spend a lot of time reminding kids why words like that are not okay - you wouldn't say someone's a diabetic as an insult, so why on earth would you use retardation as an insult?! I've known and worked with people who are mentally retarded and they're nice people).

His response was basically "if the word has that much power over people, then that's the perfect reason to use it as much as possible").

Okay. So not reading his stuff anymore. I usually try to be non-judgemental, but I'll go out on a limb and say that this is NOT a person I'd ever actually want to meet. I mean, he can write whatever he wants, but I don't have to read it - the beauty of free speech and choice.
