Jul. 5th, 2007 06:06 pmStill teary-eyed thinking about Beverly Sills, whose recordings were played over and over in my house growing up. And fond memories of her on the Muppet Show and stuff like that.
Some nice things:
- wandering in thrift store one town over from mine and found two blouses for teaching, a huge piece of pure silk material (olive green) and one of muted, sort of pumpkin-coloured linen (big tablecloth) that I can use for medieval costuming, or possibly Roman, and one big piece of fairly lightweight teal wool (possibly too bright, but I suppose I can dye it or something). All for less than $30. Happy me.. Oh, good grief. I'm getting a fabric stash. (hangs head in shame...or not)
-I came up short on coins for my coffee yesterday morning, and the guy behind the counter (elderly Asian gentlemen, in all senses of the latter word) told me to just enjoy it and bring in the rest of the change tomorrow - he'd trust me. Not many people in the world like that. I added some this morning for a tip. :)
-the explosions above the school this morning were not in fact fireworks, but some guys getting rid of gophers on the athletics field by using compressed air cylinders...(giggle - can they come do that at my house?)
