Happy New Year to all on my f-list and to anyone else reading this! May it be full of light, love, music, and creativity.

No fancy graphics, I'm afraid...I'm too tired to even attempt that.

I do believe that our New Year's Eve will be spent at home, relaxing and perhaps watching a movie. Or cuddling. Or both. And having hot soup, my sister's ginger cookies, and some sparkling cider. Sounds good to me. :)

Ending the year by staying true to my lj name, I had fun this afternoon, with my sister recording me - I sang an English ballad from Samuel Pepys' collection from the 17th century. Yikes! This is a project out of UC Santa Barbara and she asked me to record two for the cd that will be released from the thing (1800 or so ballads will be recorded by the end of the project) this week and then my group will record more this spring. Fun stuff - the one I sang today was a rather, er, bawdy one about warning girls to avoid less-than-gentlemen who might seek to "take their maiden rose". Ahem. In the last verse, the singer dumps a pushy fop into a pond fully clothed and runs. *giggle* You go, girl!

For contrast, the one I'm recording tomorrow is a religious/political ballad. After I memorize the tune tonight and sort out several 17th century spelling/pronunciation oddities.

One extra to make today nice - I had an eBay purchase arrive today - a late 17th century cream-coloured wool jacket, period-correct, lined with linen. Ooooooh.
