A post from a friend's journal regarding today's joyous occasions in California:
"(a truck covered with anti-gay slurs) drove down Valencia) and some small kids walking along
shouted 'go home!'"
Heh - go kids! Grow up and run the country, will 'ya? :) It's not even the ceremony of it, truly, but the legal protection and rights that marriage license provides that are so important. It's good to know that my friends and family who are getting married this week in various parts of California, regardless of the gender of their partner, will all have the same rights as I do as a spouse to be with a partner in a hospital in case of emergency, have the right to raise their children without challenge, etc.
It's about time... Congratulations!

Random moment:
Conversation between myself and my mother tonight, on the phone:
Mom: She's doing so well at her swimming lessons, she's coming along like gangbusters.
Me: Great!
(daughter in background): Grandma, what's gangbusters?
Mom (dissolves into giggles and tries to explain)
English is weird. I agree with my English students on this point all the time.
