Jan. 20th, 2007 05:46 pmBleh. 4.5 hours of test-taking, complete with short essays (with VERY limited space to write) and filling in those damned bubbles with a number 2 pencil. I sympathize with my students every fall, truly I do. Lots of questions I could answer easily, some were harder. Why a multiple subject teaching exam includes physical education when most schools have PE teachers, I don't know...not really my forte. Now the music and drama questions? Yeah, no problem. I still don't get algebra, apparently, and that hasn't changed since high school.
A really cool lady as the test proctor - she's been teaching for 36 years, she said, and she thought the test was inane and irritating. She wondered, while she was passing out test booklets, why the state would make us take this test that cost so much if they really needed more teachers out there. Also, when someone asked her what she'd change, she said to dump the "No Child Left Behind" Act and make all legislators spend one week in a classroom being in charge (and that included planning, grading, and teaching...). Heh... :)
