Gaaaaah. So as I was grading papers, I had the tv on for random background noise...flipped to "Dancing With the Stars". Heather Mills was on it. Five straight minutes about her leg (and I thought uh-oh) and then as she finished her number, this is how it went for me...

"Beautiful."

"So..." (my brain screamed "Don't say it please!") "inspirational." (AAAAAAAAAAAh. Damn, he said it. Any more cliches he can come up with? Noble, perhaps?)

I spent too long doing disability education and trying to get people to stop doing that. That goes right up there with "our special friend who's here tonight". Completely patronizing and rude. And a deaf friend of mine in college actually had someone say that about her once at an event. She was seriously pissed off.

Rain today, which is good for the seedlings in my garden. Also apparently for kids who like to jump in puddles at lunch recess. :)

Thing is, I can't help but get the feeling Heather Mills is trading on her disability--it definitely adds an element of sensationalism to the show, and I've not heard any objections from her about the way it's been played up in the promotions. *sigh*

Of course, if she can get people to think about that, they may forget her split with Sir Paul.

I'd like to think I'm wrong.

Gotta say I agree with you. I've been thinking she was looking for positive press.
