Snake in a....Classroom?!?!
Sep. 14th, 2007 05:22 pmHow did I spend my prep period today during school? Well, I was supposed to be grading papers, but went outside to deal with a little ahem, language issue from some boys. As I was doing so, the sixth grade classroom two doors down suddenly erupted in screams. One of those screams was "Rattlesnake!" So the teacher there had evacuated the classroom. Having some experience in wildlife rescue, I peeked in to see a snake. A six inch long, tiny, little spotted snake. Who was completely freaked out and panicking, striking at anything that moved. Not sure what it was yet - if it was a rattler, it was too small to have even a little rattle yet. So I put an empty garbage pail over it, and helped the janitor move it outside. Gave the kids my thirty-second spiel about animals only attacking if they're threatened, etc., and helped the janitor move the snake elsewhere. Our campus security officer said he'd take it to wildlife rescue on his lunch break. I can only picture the snake in the pail in his office for an hour. :)
It's Friday and I'm finally home. Whew.
