Oct. 7th, 2007 07:11 pmThe Renaissance Faire yesterday was fun! Daughter and I went in period garb, so accurately in fact, that we kept being mistaken for people who worked at Faire... :) (Picture to come as soon as I can post it) Daughter tried archery and we watched a joust; during the joust, "our knight"'s horse decided that, well he was done. Heh...as he explained to the crowd, "when a horse that big says he's done, you don't argue!"
Favorite moment that wasn't related to watching people obviously enjoy how cute my kid was? The little boy who came up to me, tugged at the sleeve of my chemise and stage-whispered "What's in the basket?" I carried anything modern in a basket, with a cloth over it and apples resting on top so it looked like I was going from a market back home. Guess it worked - he seemed disappointed that there wasn't something more exciting than apples in it - perhaps he expected a baby dragon?
The only problem was that the no-smoking thing wasn't enforced, and my asthma (and apparently, that of folk working there on more than one occasion) flared up something fierce. There were guys smoking cigarettes (modern ones) as well as cigars! Ewwwwww.
Two rehearsals today and I officially hate microphones. It's just totally overwhelming to realize that how I've practiced solos doesn't work in front of a mike, 'cause I have to change volume, how I phrase notes, etc. Whimper. And the other two rehearsals don't use the mikes, of course, so the next time I have it in front of me is about an hour before the performance next Saturday. Stress, much?
