Brain? What brain?

Gah. Paying for my groceries in Trader Joe's this afternoon after work...I was talking to the cashier (a young college-age guy), who had asked me where I taught and mentioned his mom was a teacher in Alaska. And then commented that they have this huge budget for schools up there, but that the students "are all Indians, you know, so they don't want to learn much, so it's all wasted, and they need the money around here But whatever."

*pause for calm*

I managed to politely say that I was pretty sure that they tried just as hard as my kids (many of whom actually have Native American heritage, being from Mexico). Then tried not to bang my head into the car window repeatedly once I got out into the parking lot. I wish I'd stopped and said something else, but just was too tired for confrontation and can only hope that he got the point.

Sigh. I need to watch some sci-fi tonight, or read that George Eliot book I started dealing with.

Or find a hot-tub.
