Aug. 31st, 2008 06:40 pmGoodness... an odd up-and-down couple of days.
Feeling better in increments, and I actually have a voice back today.
Family visiting - my retired parents babysat their granddaughter this week, so that was good.
My husband went to help finish clearing out his grandmother's house and brought back an old but perfectly working sewing machine in one of those fold-down cabinets. And two sewing boxes/baskets. Hundreds of buttons, needles, pins, tape-measures, etc. We'll never need to buy those again. Ever. The cool part? In the drawers and baskets were bits of family history, including a little leather-bound sewing kit labeled with the name of my daughter's great-great-great grandmother. !!!!! There were odd little things, like the lace trim that M. used to threaten to sew onto her sons' shirts if they didn't tuck them in (*giggle*) and some "papers of pins" that were from the 1930's. Yikes! We're going to have to do some research on some of the antique stuff.
Our neighbor, who is only here periodically, visited this weekend, and is driving me nuts. Her comments about our former neighbors were yet again borderline racist..."well, you know, dear, they were associated with those sorts of people and there were nine in the one house, which is just not right". I managed to politely mention that many people share houses around here, due to ridiculous prices for housing and how hard it is to find jobs when one is a recent immigrant. I am pretty sure that went right over her head as usual.
There is a cobbler (crumble?) in the oven of apples, pears, and blueberries and a gluten-free topping, and I am starting to smell the cinnamon from the kitchen. MMMMM.
